Composition of Immigrants from 1945 to 2001

 

Immigration peaked in 1970. From then on, the percent of New Zealand and Pacific immigrants began increasing and percent  of European and UK/Ireland immigrants began decreasing. By the end of the century, most immigrants were coming from New Zealand, the Pacific region and Asia.

Number of Immigrants by age vs. general population

Both the Immigrant population and native born population creates a bell shape with fewer numbers of people in the age groups on the ends with more in the middle, however, the bell shape for the immigrant population is much more exaggerated than the one for the non immigrant population with very few people over the age of 65.
